Softening the human condition through the means of art--I am primarily a three-dimensional artist working in an interdisciplinary format.

Assemblage

What-not boxes make up a new body of work. Consisting of fabricated plywood boxes with finger joints and found objects. The objects were obtained from a number of places including walks, dumpster diving, happenstance, and junk left in various tool boxes.  My interest in good composition and what can be done with mixing found materials with fabricated materials has contributed to a number of What-Not Boxes. The boxes are designed to be placed on a wall, or a table or shelf. The Boxes come in two sizes a square box 7 ¼ x 7 ¼ x 2 ½ , and a larger Rectangular box 25 ¾ x 7 ¼ x 2 ¼ . The rectangular box is the size of three square boxes with a two inch gap between them. When placed on the wall a cleat system is used. This system allows for easy hanging. A two-inch space is recommended in-between boxes. This allows for the boxes to be moved around on the cleat system. This body of work comes out of my love of collecting something I have participated in at a very young age.  I have a number of collections that have been carefully put together over the years. The collection of found materials to facilitate a body of work is not new and has been done wonderfully before, by artists such as Louise Nevelson, Joseph Cornell, La Wilson, Betye Saar. The assemblage pieces that these artists have done have greatly influenced the making of What-not boxes.  Not everything in the What-not boxes is a found object but may be a new object inspired by a found object. If the final composition benefits from fabricated objects, these are made. I try to keep the boxes open and non-objective when possible. Some Objects and compositions do arise with their own narratives. Some Narratives are too important to ignore.
